David Sykes Sculptures

David’s passion for animals shines through in his work, with each piece carefully crafted to capture the character, movement, and the playful side of nature is a true testament to his artistic skill and dedication.

In 2024/25 David focused his efforts realising an idea to place polar bears in yoga poses, which established the ‘Polar Yoga’ series. He has further developed this series drawing on Aboriginal, Huichol (Mexican), Inca, and especially Inuit  (Eskimo) influences to stylise these pieces. Some of this work messages Inuit sayings or spiritual beliefs using the Inuit Inuktitut syllabary. All these pieces are hand finished in acrylic paints.

David has also continued during this time to create his wooden pieces that are constructed using laminated birch wood, which extenuates the animal shapes and form. Each of these works are unique as the veneer lines creates an uncertain organic journey arriving at the final piece.
